An Anti-Aging Diet
62Can our diets affect the rate at which our bodies deteriorate with age? The answer is an emphatic "yes"! The diet that will help to slow the aging process in our bodies is not a weight reduction diet as such, although those who follow a good anti-aging diet will most likely lose any extra body weight they are carrying around….and that would be a good thing because it will make life easier for the bones and joints.
An anti-aging diet is very much like that popular Mediterranean diet. The ideal anti-aging diet should consist of about 50-55% complex carbohydrates such as fruits and vegetables. That means that about half of all of the calories that you consume in a 24-hour period should consist of fresh fruit and vegetables. About 20% of the daily calorie consumption should come from protein, but those protein sources should consist mostly of protein from plants. Another 25% should come from fat (unsaturated), and about 5% from sweets. That is a far cry from the standard American diet that consists of about 46% carbohydrates, 11% from protein (mostly meat), and an alarming 43% from fat — and not the unsaturated variety, either.
The standard American diet will add years to the body's appearance years before those years are actually lived, and it is also is a heart attack looking for a place to happen.
To eat a diet that will prevent premature aging, you should drink at least eight glasses of water every single day. Water is essential for the health of the body. Every day, you should eat whole grains like wheat, barley, and oats. Every day, you should eat fresh fruit and fresh vegetables. Every day, you should eat eggs and a little oil from fish, poultry, or plants. You shouldn't have poultry or fish as a main course more than twice a week and you shouldn't have heavy beef or sweets more than once a week.

I would like to add that we should try to use organic products as much as possible as it is a lot better for our health and for the environment.
Many people do have problems to eat enough raw vegetables, my advice here is to make vegetable juices. I call it "healthy fast food" as it is very healthy and it's fast and easy to make. I drink around 1 pint (5 dl) each day, that's a lot more than the "5 a day". I don't think it takes me more than 15 minutes preparing the vegetables, juicing them and cleaning up. A great way to get nutrition into children too.
